About

We are a registered charity with Christian values and principles but we are not exclusive. Our counsellors are trained to work with people of a Christian faith, another faith or no faith. You will be asked in an early session about your spirituality so we can tailor the service to your needs. If you are of a different ethnic origin than that of the counsellor, you will be invited to tell the counsellor about your culture to enhance the service we offer.

We seek to offer a bespoke service so time is taken to assess a new client so the agency is best equipped to understand the needs of the individual. Our counsellors work with a wide variety  of different counselling theories; this is called integrative counselling. Sometimes a number of different  theories may be utilised within one session.

A counselling session at  WWCA is more than just talking; you may be asked to work creatively such as with paint or dolls or even buttons. All such activities are discussed and a clear rationale will be offered. You are always at liberty to decline to work creatively. Any such interventions are introduced collaboratively.

The whole process of counselling within WWCA is collaborative. The ethos is very much one of working together to find solutions.

We focus on the whole person, understanding that our physical health may well affect our mental health, so don’t be surprised if a visit to the GP is suggested. We also look at how our thoughts and beliefs about ourselves affect our mood and behaviours. This understanding can facilitate lasting change.

Reviews of the work take place regularly to give you the client the opportunity to say if you have found any intervention particularly helpful or unhelpful. Goals will also be set of what you the client still want to see from counselling.

As professional counsellors trained to work integratively, we are able to work with most issues. The most complex of cases will not be referred to a student to ensure that each counsellor is working within their professional capabilities. If at any point a counsellor feels they are no longer able to meet the needs of an individual, this will be discussed with the client and the manger to work out the best way forward for each client.

Counsellors

All our counsellors have a current DBS in place and are a member of a professional body working within the bounds of the ethical code of said professional body. Counsellors are working towards or have in place registered membership of the chosen professional body.

How to start the process

If you feel you would like to work with us to understand difficulties, please contact us by email or phone. The phone may not be answered, but someone will get back to you if you leave your contact details. Once your enquiry is activated you will be assessed by the manager who will then assign you to a counsellor. The counsellor will then contact you to arrange a mutually suitable appointment. Sessions  are usually weekly and last for an hour. Different arrangements can be made on request to the counsellor.
